Dining

Garden-grown cooking, presented beneath glass

A walled kitchen garden, three places for food and drink, and a kitchen team whose weekly plans follow whatever gardeners bring in each morning.

The Orangery

Lunch, breakfast and dinner under lemon trees

Originally built as a long glass hall for wintering the estate's citrus trees, the Orangery still houses them in vast terracotta pots between tables. Breakfast brings overnight-baked pastries, orchard fruit and eggs from our own hens. For lunch and dinner, menus shift weekly with the garden, with uncomplicated cooking that lets produce stand on its own.

Here is a sample dinner menu for the current season. All dishes may be adjusted for vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free guests, and your server will be pleased to explain the day's changes.

The Fern House

Afternoon tea beneath the tree ferns

From 14:30 until 17:00 each afternoon, linen and mismatched floral china dress the Fern House, the intimate glasshouse connected to the Orangery. Warm scones arrive with garden jam and thick cream, alongside fine sandwiches, a tart that follows the season and teas including our own lemon verbena and mint blends.

  • Cream cheese sandwiches with cucumber and dill
  • Rhubarb scones served with rose petal jam and cream
  • Drizzle cake scented with lemon verbena
  • Blends from our garden tea collection

Afternoon tea costs $42 per guest, or $54 when paired with a glass of sparkling wine. At weekends, we suggest reserving one day in advance.

The Potting Shed

A brick bar where every shelf holds a garden

The Potting Shed was once a working shed and is now our cocktail bar, retaining the original brick floor, long workbench and view across the kitchen garden. Each afternoon, the bar team gathers from the borders, transforming the day's finds into garnishes, syrups and tinctures, which lets the menu change softly with the seasons. Open every day, 16:00 to 01:00.

The kitchen garden

Thursday supper club, around the long table

During warmer-month Thursday evenings, twenty-four guests gather at a long table laid in the walled kitchen garden. The chef cooks whatever is ready that day over an open fire, then serves supper for sharing as daylight slips over the vegetable beds. Places cost $85 per guest, with hotel guests offered them first.

Every estate kitchen gives allergies and dietary requirements full attention. Please mention them at booking, or let your server know on the day, and our chefs will prepare your food to suit.
