The Garden Salon
Responsible gaming
An evening in the Garden Salon should feel like a stroll through the garden: unhurried, enjoyable and over when you decide it is. Hotel Tiva wants every guest to play for pleasure and on their own terms, and this page explains how we help.
Adults only
The salon, the poker room and the card lounge are open to adults only. Photo identification is checked at the door every evening, including for guests we know well, and anyone unable to show it will be politely refused entry.
Decide your limits first
Before you sit down, decide how much time and money the evening is worth to you, and keep to it. Treat anything you spend at the tables as the cost of entertainment, in the same way as dinner or a concert, and never as a source of income. Our hosts can set a daily time or spending limit on your account at your request, and it takes effect straight away.
Take a break, or step away
The garden is never far away, and a walk in the fresh air is a good habit between hands. If you would like a longer pause, you may ask to be excluded from the salon for a day, a month, a year or permanently. Speak to the salon desk or to reception in confidence, and we will make the arrangements quietly.
Signs worth noticing
- Playing for longer, or spending more, than you had planned.
- Chasing losses, or playing on to recover what has already been spent.
- Borrowing money, or using money meant for something else, in order to play.
- Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not playing.
- Keeping the amount you play from the people close to you.
Support, in confidence
If any of these feel familiar, for you or for someone you care about, please talk to us. Our team is trained to listen without judgement and can put you in touch with independent counselling and support services that offer free, confidential help. You can also write to us privately at [email protected].
Our commitment
Staff in the salon are trained to recognise when play has stopped being fun and to offer help discreetly. No guest is ever encouraged to keep playing, and nothing we offer at Hotel Tiva depends on time spent at the tables.
