The Glasshouse Spa

Treatments drawn from the garden

At the Orangery's far end, the old palm house forms our spa: a domed glasshouse containing five treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge and eucalyptus steam room beneath tall kentia palms. Plants cultivated across the estate create every balm and oil, whether from herb beds by the kitchen door, lavender borders or the rose garden.

Open daily between 9:00 and 20:00, the spa accepts treatment reservations at reception or by writing before arrival. Hotel guests may use the lounge and steam room without charge.

The walled pool

A heated pool within the flower garden

A heated open-air pool sits protected by the flower garden's old brick walls, warm enough to enjoy except on the very coldest days. Among lavender and catmint are loungers, while robes and towels await in the pool house. Throughout summer, the small kiosk offers light lunches, iced tea and lemonade.

Swimming for families is available daily from 9:00 to 12:00. From midday until closing, the pool is reserved for adults, ensuring a peaceful time is always available.

In the garden

Tours, workshops plus quiet corners

Every morning at 10:00, our head gardener takes guests around the estate, beginning at the Great Glasshouse and finishing in the kitchen garden. There, guests may gather a few herbs for their rooms. Across the week, small workshops in the garden's quieter crafts take place at the old potting bench.

At $35 per guest, workshops include all materials needed to bring your creation home. With only eight places available, we recommend asking for a seat on arrival.

After dark

Music, stars plus a game or two

From 19:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, a string quartet performs in the Great Glasshouse while drinks are served among the palms. When skies are clear, blankets and telescopes are set on the croquet lawn for an hour beneath the stars. For guests drawn to cards rather than constellations, the Garden Salon remains open into the early hours.

  • Boules and croquet on the south lawn
  • Bikes to explore the estate lanes
  • 8:00 yoga beneath glass
  • Summer Sunday open-air cinema
